Party 9 Kickball Rules

OSSO Party 9s Kickball Cheat Sheet

Please refer to Kickball 365 Rulebook for any other specific rules.

FIELDING

  • 9 Players in the field at least 3 must be female

BASERUNNING

  • The kicking team starts with a runner at 2nd Base to begin each inning
  • To start the game, the last kicker in the lineup starts at 2nd
  • In subsequent innings, the last kicker OUT starts at 2nd

TIME LIMITS (Section 4.2.1)

  • 7 innings or 50 minutes.
  • Completing a set number of innings/ time limit ends a game.
  • Mercy rule is in effect if there is a ten (10) run difference at the end of the 5th inning, or any inning after at the request of the losing team.
  • Ten (10) runs is the maximum a team can score in an inning

Team Lineups (Section 7.3)

  • 3 players of the same sex cannot kick consecutively until all other players of the sex in the minority have kicked. (ex: M,M,F,M,M,F… until all Females have kicked)
  • Team’s Fielding Lineup can contain a maximum of nine (9) Players

PITCHING STYLE (Section 8.2)

  • Pitch must be pitched underhand with no bounces or spins and at an average pitch speed with a pitcher's full intent to pitch a "strike".

KICKING / BUNTING RULES (Section 8.12)

  • Each Kicker gets a maximum of 4 "kick" attempts per at-kick
    • A "kick" attempt is a kick & miss, a called strike, a foul ball or a ball in play
      • A kick & miss is when the kicker's kicking foot fully passes the kicker's plant foot (think "check-swing" in baseball)
        • If a ball is kicked "in play", the result of the play ends the kicker's at-kick attempt
    • After 4 "kick" attempts, the kicker is out
  • Any ball that is kicked, if the catcher chooses to touch the ball before it reaches the 1st-3rd base line or if it stops short of the line and the catcher touches it, the ball is considered foul at that point. If any other fielder touches the ball before that line, it is considered fair and in play

OSSO PARTY 9s KICKBALL LEAGUE SPECIFIC RULES

  • A runner CAN advance at their own risk on a caught foul ball
  • If a player is too injured to kick, they are an automatic out
  • If a player is too injured to run, the last out of the same sex will be a pinch runner if the kicker makes it safely on base.
    • If a player is known to be injured before his/her kick attempt, the Captain should signal to the head REF & opposing captain that the kicker will need a pinch runner if they reach base
  • If a team has less than the required amount of a particular sex to play during the regular season, the opposing captain must verbally agree to the game being counted toward the standings and that team must take an out in that player's spot in the kicking order.
  • IF a fielder is attempting to make a play at first base, they may touch the safest portion of either the white OR orange bag as to not trip the runner. (ex. If a throw takes the first baseman into foul territory, they may tag the orange bag for the out instead of sticking out their leg to touch the white bag) You won’t be penalized for making the SAFE play.
  • The fielding team has the right to make a defensive play on a kicked ball, however interference will be called on any defensive play where a runner is impeded. (ex: a throw to first base that pulls the first baseman into the runner’s lane is interference IF the runner has to make an adjustment in order to avoid a collision)
  • Defensive players cannot line up to start a play on a base or in the base path!
  • Overthrow rule - If a ball is THROWN out of play (over the fence), the head ref will signal for an overthrow. Runners get MOMENTUM + BASE.
    • An overthrow is not applicable to a runner being hit with the ball and the ball rolling out of play.
  • If a ball hits anything on the sidelines not in play (a cooler, chair, players on the sideline, etc....) the ball is a "dead ball" and runners only get momentum.
    • If a runner is on a base at the time it's called, they stay on their base.
    • Please keep the sideline areas clear with everything and everyone as close to the fence as possible.
  • NO INFIELD FLY RULE (If you're playing in the social league, and you know what the infield fly rule is, don't be that jerk that intentionally drops an easy catch to get multiple runners out)

  • Any other league specific rules that were not addressed in this cheat sheet will be subject to League Manager’s “Spirit of the League” ruling and will be determined with fairness, player safety & fun in mind.
